Ruben Amorim's genius decision sees Man Utd survive late Brighton onslaught and enter top four
"And the Reds go marching on," chanted the Stretford End as Ruben Amorim wrapped up his third Premier League win on the spin.
A lot can change in a month - United looked down and out with Amorim on the verge of the sack. And now Amorim’s methods are bearing fruit, his side transformed into a team brimming with confidence and purpose.
You'd forgive some United players if they started suffering from a touch of altitude sickness -it’s been a long time since they’ve been this high up the table. And for once, they’re only looking upwards.
Brighton did start the better of the two sides, but once Matheus Cunha broke his Red Devils duck to open the scoring, the tide turned decisively.
Casemiro needed a huge slice of luck to double the lead, before Bryan Mbeumo lashed the ball past Bart Verbruggen to round off the display.
Amorim's summer signings have changed this team - and quite possibly the future of the Red Devils.
Mbeumo and Cunha have started to add goals to their performances, while young Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens has restored a sense of calm authority between the posts that’s been missing for far too long.
Lammens was at his brilliant best again here, getting just enough on Yankuba Minteh’s effort to deny Brighton a route back into the match at 2–0.
In the Sky Sports studio Izzy Christiansen sung the praises of the Red Devils - admitting there's a "real aura" about them.
While, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Paul Robinson said: "When I was walking to Old Trafford today, I was speaking to some of the fans and there was just a feeling of optimism.
"They got a victory over their arch-rivals last week, and all of a sudden they came into this game with hope and expectation.
"There was more a feeling of how they were going to win, rather than if it was going to happen."
Danny Welbeck's spectacular free-kick injected some nerves into Old Trafford, and a 92nd minute second from Charalampos Kostoulas set up a grand stand finish.
Three wins on the bounce with a manager whose vision is starting to take hold. Amorim’s United are marching on - and this time, it feels like they might just keep going.
