Man City test Tottenham with £60m bid for De Bruyne replacement

Manchester City want Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison to replace their outgoing legend Kevin De Bruyne during the summer window. The Citizens are losing De Bruyne for free as his current contract expires at the end of the ongoing season.

Spurs need a strong transfer window to rectify the errors they made this season, which contributed to their significant decline. The Lilywhites are 15th in the Premier League table with a game on Sunday, after Everton surpassed them on Saturday.

Spurs will play Wolves in the away game today, keeping their second-leg Europa League game against Eintracht Frankfurt in mind. The Europa League remains their only attainable goal now and a chance to qualify for next season’s Champions League competition.

Maddison has a pivotal role to play if Spurs want to succeed in the Europa League and beat their competitions. The 28-year-old has played 41 games in all competitions for Spurs this season, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists.

According to Fichajes, Man City want Maddison from Tottenham to replace their outgoing playmaker De Bruyne during the upcoming summer. The Citizens are willing to put a £60 million offer for the England international to test the resolve of Spurs.

Irrespective of what happens this season, the Lilywhites cannot afford to lose their key players like Maddison to direct rivals. Like Tottenham, Man City have also struggled to live up to their expectations this season and selling the 28-year-old is strengthening them at the expense of the club’s own ambitions.

Maddison is the kind of playmaker who thrives when the squad is well-balanced in all phases of the game. Once Spurs achieve that balance again by strengthening the team around him, he will play a crucial role.

If the England international opts to leave, a £60 million reported figure is far less than what Spurs should demand. Maddison is currently in the peak year of his career and his contract with the club expires on June 30, 2028.
